Barracloughs selected to host ABDO Vice President for centenary celebrations

The Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO) is the professional body representing dispensing opticians across the United Kingdom. Founded in its original form in 1926, ABDO supports over 11,000 members and sets the professional standards for the dispensing optics workforce.
We are thrilled to announce that Barracloughs the Opticians has been selected as one of just 100 practices across the country to host a special visit as part of a major national milestone. ABDO Vice President Deborah Bill will be visiting our Bexhill practice on Thursday 20th August to mark the centenary of the dispensing optics profession.

Celebrating the past. Inspiring the future.
Throughout 2026, the Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO) is holding a year-long celebration to honour 100 years since its predecessor organisation, the Association of Dispensing Opticians, was established. This historic movement formally recognised dispensing opticians (DOs) as a distinct, skilled, and valued profession within eye care.
Reflecting on the milestone, ABDO CEO Alistair Bridge noted that the centenary offers a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the incredible achievements of DOs over the past century while looking ahead to the future of clinical practice and patient care.
Spotlighting clinical excellence at Barracloughs
We are incredibly proud that our Bexhill team was chosen to take part in these celebrations. Dispensing opticians play a vital role in ensuring our patients receive expert advice, precise lens fittings, and high-quality optical care tailored to their individual visual needs. Hosting Deborah Bill at Barracloughs is a fantastic opportunity to showcase our team's dedication to clinical excellence and local patient care.
Stay tuned for more updates on Deborah's upcoming visit to Bexhill and how we will be participating in ABDO’s centenary activities throughout the year!
